Over the years, I have written songs for many different occasions, some of them not exactly fitting into a particular category or genre. For instance, below you will find two very strange titles: Ohayo Gozaimasu, Konnichiwa and The Shores of Novorossiysk. Ohayo was written in December of 1999 when I visited Japan on a Fulbright Memorial Fund Teaching Scholarship. The song is now a sort of “theme song” in the public schools in Miyakanojo, Miazaki Prefecture, Japan. Novorossiysk was written in 1989 when I visited the former Soviet Union and stayed in this little town on the Black Sea in Ukraine. I performed it on stage with the youth leader for the Young Communists League on a sultry night in July that summer. ... The other songs are somewhat equally “unclassifiable.”
