Falling In Love Again

(collection)

The ballad or love song has been a staple of musicians and poets for centuries, finding wide-spread expression during the Middle Ages and the Renaissance in solo and choral madrigals and other songs and dance music that celebrated the passion and the power of love. Even in ancient times we find poetry that reflects the vagaries of love with all its maddening dimensions. Sophocles wrote in the 3rd century b.c.e. (in Antigone, The 3rd Choral Ode) about how love sets us up and lets us fall over and over again “...and,” he concluded, “Aphrodite laughs.”

There seems to be no end to the ways one can write about love and how it is manifest in our lives. Perhaps some of the music presented here will speak to your heart...as it has to mine over and over again. I’ll most likely be augmenting this section of my music fairly regularly, so continue to stop back and see what’s new. But beware: this is not rock ‘n’ roll. It’s mostly tender, sensitive music and lyrics. Most of the scores are piano “outlines,” so you will have

to fill in the blanks.  And if you do enjoy some of these songs, I’d “love” to hear from you.
